I did a double batch of Pretzel Biscuits and determined to use this technique. I ran out of toothpicks after the first batch. My conclusion: I won't use toothpicks next time. I had no slumping in the second batch and they rose about 1/2" higher without the friction of the toothpicks to overcome. And just as an added note: the only toothpicks I had were colored ones and some of their dye transferred to the immediate area around the toothpick hole. Ooops!
