My parents never met a cooler that they didn't buy. When I dismantled their house, I used them for packing, so they ended up at my house. When I took up bread baking, I needed a place to proof. I took one of the coolers, put a hole at the base, put a seed germination mat inside, and passed the cord through the hole. On the outside, I attached a thermostat to control temp (and the temp range) and plugged in the mat. A small cooling rack covers the mat to keep everything elevated. It has proven very effective as a proof box. It is rare that something isn't doing an overnight in the cooler.
