Regarding thawing bread in the microwave: I have found that High power tends to toughen the bread, so if I use this method, I put the bread in at about 40% power and the shortest time possible. The goal is not to heat the bread but only to accelerate the thawing process. (And I agree with the writer, rewarding in an oven is much better.)
