The question that arises is how much liquid to add. Would it be worthwhile to weigh the pumpkin first then do the reduction then reweigh the resulting purée and adding a quantity of liquid to bring the weight of the final purée back to the weight of the original pumpkin? Essentially what your doing is adding flavor through caramelizing rather than concentrating.
