Melanie, I’m sure the bread is eaten by now, but the half cup of sugar wouldn’t scare me since use that much in my weekly potato bread along with a stick of salted butter. However, I heat all that with mashed potatoes and milk before joining the proofed yeast. MY concern is over heating the yeast and believe that will affect the yeast more than the ingredients.
