Multiply by 0.33 really. Why not tell people to divide by 3. Divide by 0.33 why not just multiply by 3. Sure there is a difference, but I’m sure that when converting and testing equivalents no one started measuring what at a few thousandths a difference would make. Rules are easier to remember when simple. Now if you are baking dozens of loafs at once the difference might become more significant, but for home bakers making a loaf or two I think a simpler rule should suffice.
