Hi Jessica, a flexible cover would allow more room for fermentation gases to accumulate, which definitely could be advantageous for a dough that has an extended fermentation time (overnight), but if the rise time isn't excessively long and you leave enough head room in your container for the dough to rise and some gasses to accumulate, I don't think a rigid lid should cause any issues.
