Hi Debbra, these two ingredients will play very nice together! The suggestion to mix the Clearjel with sugar is there to prevent clumping. Our Baking Sugar Alternative (and we would imagine other sugar substitutes) will do this too. Clearjel works alone so either sugar will work. BSA will not thicken like sugar will so you may need to use a little more Clearjel depending on the fruit, but either way the Clearjel will work with both. Happy Baking!
