We use silicon liners without cupcake/muffin pans, just set on a sheet pan. (We got rid of all our muffin/cupcake pans once we figured this out— over a decade ago and haven’t missed em) Never noticed off flavors from silicon, though we do hand wash them. A small brush (such as a toothbrush) is handy for getting any residue out of the grooves and bottom edge (pop the silicon inside out.)
