Hi Mark, it can be tough to get rid of that starch flavor, which is why most glaze recipes include some vanilla extract or other flavoring. Lemon juice/maple syrup/boiled cider can also make for a nicer flavored glaze. If you have a high powered blender you could also try making your own powdered sugar from granulated sugar, thereby avoiding the cornstarch completely.
