My aunt always used a whisk-like tool but it looked like an open flattened spoon-like thing woven with wire. I think the person who posted calling it like chicken wire and I are describing the same thing. She only used it for homemade angel food cake. No fancy whisks in a small town in the 40's and 50's! Her angel food was divine!
