Hi Noel, most Turtle Candy recipes call for melting store bought caramels, but I did find this recipe elsewhere online that calls for a simple caramel recipe that is cooked to 240°F, which is the high end of the soft ball stage. Another recipe I found called for cooking the caramel to 235-240°F, which is also the soft ball stage.
