The method worked beautifully and produced a nicely sprung loaf. It needed 8-10 minutes longer in the oven than usual. Two cups of boiling water wasn't enough to saturate too-thirsty towels and they scorched on the bottom - oops. My very basic electric oven is designed to vent steam, not contain it, so I don't think I'll be using this method in the summertime. For a cold winter afternoon when the extra heat is welcome it makes a gorgeous loaf of bread and makes the house smell wonderful.
