You have your choice of using either the stainless bowl with the roller/scraper or the plastic bowl with the single whisks for cake batter (indeed, you can use the stainless bowl for anything, including whipping cream and egg whites). Neither method will process cold butter UNLESS you freeze your butter and grate it.
