For many years, I have added dried buttermilk when making cream cheese frosting. I substitute the dried buttermilk for an equal amount of powdered sugar (1/4 to 1/3 cup) - the dried buttermilk keeps the frosting from being too sweet, allows the frosting to keep the same lovely texture, and adds a certain “something” to the overall flavor.
