I acquired a set of fine quality steel measuring spoons early in my housekeeping days-- before 1964 anyway. They hang by the ring that keeps them together (I'd lose them otherwise) from a cup hook over the sink, adjacent to the stove, in my small kitchen. There are 6 spoons-- 1/8th, 1/4th, 1/3d, 1/2 , 1 tsp, 1Tbsp. I have a mostly unused set in a drawer across the kitchen. Small kitchen with lots of counter-top space means that my 1 set of attached spoons are always close at hand, have never gotten lost (The plastic, mostly unused, set was a great distraction for creeping babies). The flour and sugar are in airtight containers in a floor-to-ceiling cupboard, my mini-pantry....
