When I was a kid, and had been baking for a while, we invited my teacher for lunch (we walked home for lunch in those days). My mother thought we should play it safe and got a box cake for me to bake for the dessert. We never figured out how, but the cake mix failed. We had to start over again from scratch. I still don't use box mixes!

In more recent times, I was making a cake with honey and the wall phone across the kitchen rang. I remember holding something with honey dripping from it as I walked across the room to the phone. Needless to say I had honey all over the kitchen. Some disasters aren't in the mixing, but in the absent minded person doing the mixing.
