Hi Lani!

A cast iron pan is good for both car camping and backpacking. While on the heavier side, cast iron is commonly used in expedition-type trips where some of the heavier group gear is divvied up. No other material can really withstand the heat of an open fire without getting severely discolored the way cast iron can. Happy baking!
