Proud to say I've done that, back in the '70s and early '80s, in the Daniel Boone Forest of Kentucky.
No cast iron skillet or Dutch Oven, because we backpacked upriver into the wilderness.
But there's nothing better than cornbread or biscuits baked over an open fire, even if you have to be careful of scorching in lightweight aluminum camping pans!
