Hi Patsy, with PJ's method you add the chocolate chips to the hot butter/sugar mixture and allow the chocolate to melt a bit before adding the egg mixture, so this should cool down the batter enough for the eggs. If you have an instant read thermometer you can wait until the mixture with chips cools down to 110°F to 120°F (as listed in the recipe), before mixing in the egg mixture.
