Thanks for the recipe and general guidelines! I foster rescues and always have a multi-dog household and I make pumpkin treats all the time for my crew. I've found that if you increase the amount of pumpkin you don't need the oil. This is especially true if you're using freshly roasted pumpkin because it often has more moisture than canned pumpkin. I realize that for most people roasting pumpkins for your dog treats is a ridiculous extra step!
Also, because I foster seniors and hospice dogs who often don't have many/any teeth I've experimented to figure out what works best for them. For my crew of toothless senior poodles, chihuahuas, yorkies etc..., very thin, very crisp wafer-like treats work best. They crumble into tiny pieces that they can easily eat. Again, just my experience and my recipe, but if these treats are a little bit soft, they can actually be chewy and hard to eat. Love your dog related content!
