In a professional pastry kitchen all that concerns me is one's ability to do the work and ability to work with others in such a way so as to foster a strong team. The personal details of one's life are things that are left for discussion before or after the work day, at break time, or during lunch.

In the work environment, inclusiveness means inclusion in the team. Outside of work, one can seek inclusion in whatever group they so choose.

On a personal note, some of the folks who are my dearest friends and who I've loved the most -- happened to be gay. It didn't matter to them that I wasn't and it didn't matter to me that they were. It is and was a non-issue.

A gay friend, family member or baker is just a person. I got the impression from the article that the author has a great deal of hangups left unresolved. If she were truly comfortable with who she is -- I doubt that she would need to explain so much about her inner life with every work or social interaction.
