It’s very easy to not see something if you’re not in the minority. When you’re always in the center, suddenly not being in the center could feel like “politics” or “not sticking to the topic.” But LGBTQ folks—and anyone else who is not straight and white and able bodied and, ahem, male—don’t have the luxury of just turning off that part of ourselves when it’s inconvenient for you. Until it’s absolutely not an issue for her to mention that she’s having a baby shower with her wife, we will continue to need—and want, if you’re a queer baker, too—to write and share these stories.
