I have always used a damp cotton or linen kitchen towel to cover rising bread. Sometimes it gets oil or dough on it, but that is what I have it for, and cleans up nicely in the laundry. The old recipes all said to cover the dough with a damp towel. It actually horrifies how much plastic King Arthur offers for sale when your flour is the best!
