I cover dough to rise with a flour sack towel and it never doesn’t work. Even if the dough rises to touch the towel, the loose weave makes the towel easy to pull away without sticking to the dough—with, at most, a few bits of dough loosely attacked to the towel. Either drape the flour sack towel loosely with the edges free or, if you need to anchor the towel, just tuck the corners under the bowl but do not make it taut over the top of the bowl. I have a tiny kitchen so if it is warm outside I often let dough rise on a patio table—so anchoring the towel is best. I haven’t bought plastic wrap in years.
