Hi Shannon, a spring form pan is highly recommended. While you could use a 9" round cake pan with tall sides (at least 2"), the issue will be removing the cheesecake from the pan without cracking the surface. If you want to try it, be sure to have some extra hands available when you're planning to lift the cheesecake out of the pan, so it is supported on all sides evenly.
