One caveat to this great old method: use the jar’s 2-piece metal lid intended for canning, not the plastic ‘keeper’ lids that are sold for mason jars. The plastic lids don’t seat well & liquid can get out when they’re agitated or flipped over. Yep, found that out the messy way once … :)
