We used to do this when I taught kindergarten. We'd first take turns shaking it enough to make whipped cream and then longer to make butter. Freshly made butter tastes just great, by the way. You might want to accompany your process with our little chant (I have no idea where this came from): "Johnny's standing at the gate. Waiting for some butter cake!"
