I am so new to this and am so confused! Is sourdough starting supposed to save you money or is it just supposed to be fun? I originally thought you fed your starter and eventually it grew to the size of dough that’s ready to be baked directly as is, but this doesn’t seem to be the case. If my starter is ready but small (only about 1 cup) and a recipe calls for 5 cups, does this mean I can feed my starter enough to produce 5 cups in one go? Or am I supposed to add this to a separate bread recipe. Also, can I reuse my starter? Some people call it a mother, does this mean I can scrape off a bit and put it in a new jar and then have 2 starters?
