Sorry that happened to your stone Melissa! Pizza stones should be able to withstand heats well above 500 degrees for extended periods of time. While the stone will expectedly darken in color and season over time, this does not affect its overall performance. Any residual food material on the stone will begin to scorch at this temperature so it is best scrub the stone with steel wool prior to preheating it. If you have further concerns, check with your pizza stone's manufacturer to ensure it is rated above 500 degrees. Happy baking!
