HI Fran,
Sounds like the starter might revive, but the strong smell is giving me pause. If I were doing this at home, I would just start a new whole wheat starter from the AP starter. Next time you feed, just remove 113g and begin feeding it with whole wheat instead of AP, easy peasy. Hope that helps!
