I have been making a delicious sourdough yeast bread for about 25 years from a recipe I got from my husband's mother. She gave me the original starter, and I kept it alive for over 20 years. The original starter recipe was water, instant potatoes, sugar and yeast. You feed it warm water, potato and sugar every week. When I did not bake bread, or I forgot to feed it, I simply added a single package of yeast, then fed it as normal to jump start it. Ah - the bubbles would appear pretty quickly, and the bread I made with it would rise perfectly. When the jar broke a few years ago I had to start a new one. It took a couple months before it really developed that delicious sourdough flavor - but it is back and sooo yummy.
