Hi Peggy. We currently calculate shipping based on cost of merchandise in an order rather than by its weight. As King Arthur Baking Company
is primarily a flour and baking goods company, many of the orders we fulfill are quite heavy. Adopting a freight model that calculates shipping fees based on the cost of merchandise protects our customers from facing an overall greater burden of transportation costs. In fact, KA ends up subsidizing much of the cost of shipping customers would otherwise be responsible for. You can be sure that we will continue to monitor related costs and best practices in order to meet the needs of our community.
