My grandmother married a Greek who was from Crete. He delivered Coca Cola to the Globe, Superior and Miami, Arizona area and so everyone called him “Coke”! They moved to Los Angeles in the 40’s and I remember what a great cook he was and the aroma of oregano and pots of baby octopus. But, before Easter he would go to the Greek deli on Normandie and Pico, across from St. Sofia’s Cathedral and bring home the largest circles of Tsoureki with red eggs embedded in them! After he passed my Mexican/American grandma and I would go to the deli and admire the huge Tsoureki in the shape of crosses and circles and we’d leave with a smaller circle. I hadn’t thought of that in so many years! You’ve inspired me to make your recipe for Easter and remember “Coke” and trips to the deli!
