I made the sourdough version and followed the recipe exactly (aside from skipping the bacon). I measured using my baking scale in grams.
The scones are very tasty but they are very small and rather flat. They didn't rise much. I then tested my baking powder to be sure that wasn't the culprit, but it bubbled up very energetically when added to hot water. Given my experience, I would instead make only one larger round of dough to get 6 nice-sized scones--but still wondering why they rose so little.
