Thanks for reading this article, James, and for sharing your thoughts. We are sorry to learn that you found elements of the article distracting and disappointing. Combining baking, culture, and personal perspective (in this case, via our guest writer) is indeed what we aim to do — enriching the whole by the sum of each. As a company, we don’t support political parties or candidates, though we do understand that most every subject of some importance finds its way into being adopted by one side of the political aisle or the other. The systems in which food and culture exist, and the history surrounding them, can play a key role in what they mean. Sometimes those details are uncomfortable, certainly. Or may not be agreed on by everyone. We invited Mariela to share her authentic experience and perspective, illuminating this recipe through buoyancy and fascination, as well as through what’s weighty and challenging. Ultimately, we aim to spread the joy of baking and build community through our recipes and resources, and we hope you feel encouraged to continue exploring our content as we do so!
