I really don’t appreciate ka flour publishing articles that make claims that all Americans are racist.
“Operating a food business is brutal, and it’s even more difficult with the odds against you as a person of color in a system that doesn't care if you succeed or not.” This implied that Americans are inherently racist towards POC which has not been MY experience as a POC. My skin color is much darker then the author’s.
Also, she says “ I emphasize quality ingredients, but it’s still a struggle for me to feel great about any ingredient sourcing, because at its roots our American food system is built on stolen land and stolen labor.”
Ummm read a history book, every piece of land on this planet has been stolen back and forth across millennia. America has made mistakes in the past, all countries did, but maybe the author should be appreciative that we have a functional justice system now. Her home country of Mexico has serious problems with corrupt police and dangerous gangs. Is there a magical country out there that exists that has never treated anyone badly ever that she can source her ingredients from and not feel guilty?
Stolen labor? Is King Arthur flour using stolen labor? If you are publishing that you do so, why don’t you change your practice?
This is really ridiculous. I come on this site for baking advice not for social justice whining.
