I rise my bread dough in a straight sided 1 gallon plastic pitcher with great success.
Using a vertical strip of masking tape, I mark the level when the dough goes into the pitcher, double that height and make a second mark for "doubled".
I like using the pitcher, its transparent so I can watch it easily and no guessing about "doubled". I imagine any straight sided container would work, but I already had a pitcher, so no need to buy anything new
