Hi Lorene, a common cause of gummy bread is not baking the loaf long enough. You can also have a dough that is either too wet or too dry. Are you measuring by weight or volume? Measuring by weight will give you much more consistent and accurate results. If you don't have a scale, be sure to fluff up your flour, sprinkle it gently into the measuring cup, and level it off as shown in this video.
