Hi Loren, I'm sorry this recipe isn't working for you. It sounds like your dough is very stiff. You may be adding too much flour. Using a scale will help you get a more accurate measurement. If you're not using a scale, please use our fluff, sprinkle, scrape technique for measuring flour by volume. Because this dough is so enriched with fat and sugar, it will take a long to proof. If your house is cold, and all your ingredients are cold, it could take a really long time, even up to 2 hours to fully proof.
