I want to share my experience making this dough as an FYI to my fellow bakers.
I tried to make the dough in the bread machine, but somehow the recipe didn't fare well in the South FL humidity. When I opened my bread machine (I reaaaaaally should have looked beforehand) it was more like waffle batter than bread dough! I'd never had that happen with other recipes so I couldn't troubleshoot well. Regardless of how the "dough" came out of the machine, I was determined to have babkallah, so I added flour to the mix, which made it manageable but made me question if the end result would be accurate. It was delicious, tender, and rich; plus I was able to braid it with no problem (by the grace of the baking gods), but I definitely want to try again to see how I can adjust so that my dough is, well, dough.
