Hi there, Sandra! The first day, the starter will be fairly thick (like thick pancake batter) but not dough-like. If you're using bread flour you might need to add a couple of teaspoons of additional water to achieve the proper consistency — bread flour has a higher protein content so it absorbs a bit more liquid.
