My mum wasn’t really a baker, but I learned a lot from her mother. In the 50’s, Grammie was a traditional New England farmwife. She made all their bread, and always had doughnuts and pie on hand. At 8 and 9 and 10 years old, I helped her make bread; I learned how to knead efficiently, and how the dough felt when it was kneaded enough. Now that I’m retired
I can make bread often, and I use her Anadama recipe frequently; it’s my favorite.
