This entire blog was wonderful, brought tears to my eyes.
While my mother was not much of a baker, being a much better every day type cook, she did appreciate a good pie. Also being very determined, she would attempt pies on occasion. We kids were banished from the kitchen at that point as she wrestled with the pie crust while a stream of previously un-heard-of words flowed from her otherwise lady-like mouth.
While her pies may not have been prefect and certainly not pretty, we always loved them
Later, when I was in my early teens, my cousin and aunt were kind enough to take me under their wings and I learned to make a pie that my mother praised. She also, at that point, informed me that I was now the official baker in the family. A title I hold to this day!
To this day nothing brings me more joy than baking and often remembering my mother's determination as I do. I learned from her that nothing you want to do is impossible, whether it is baking a beautiful, tasty pie or living the life you of which you have dreamed.
