Hi Pamela, the photo of the rolls touching in the pan is an accurate representation of what the rolls should look like when they're ready to go in the oven. The baked rolls may look a bit tighter because as they grow together in the oven they squeeze together and upwards a bit. I think the rise in the pan is probably a bit higher than halfway up the pan, since the sides of the pan are 2" and the rolls are cut at about 1 1/2", but they may spread a bit more than they rise up during the shaped rise.
