I made the version with the apples. The apples stuck horribly to the pan. I scraped them off and put them on top, so it was not pretty. It did taste very good though. Moist and rich. It also took much longer to cook-approx 45 min ( I use an oven thermometer so that is not the problem). My pan was about 8 1/2" square instead of 9" though. Next time I may just cook it with the apples on top and serve it in the pan.
