Hi, Ann. I'm sorry to hear your toasting sugar experience didn't work out quite as expected. It sounds like everything was going along perfectly until the final cooling stage. It's critical to stir the sugar once it comes out of the oven a final time and continue to stir periodically until it's cooled to room temperature. Otherwise, the sugar can harden into a solid block as it cools. I hope you were able to break the sugar up enough to get it into your food processor so you can use it in your baking; it's truly a delicious treat.
