Hi, Bill. You're welcome to leave your pizza stone in the bottom of the oven if that's a habit for you. I wouldn't recommend putting the tray of sugar on the baking stone directly, as it's likely to melt the sugar instead of toasting it. Put the tray of sugar above the pizza stone and stir it every 30 minutes as you normally would. The baking stone will help regulate the temperature of the oven and in the end, hopefully give you fantastic, evenly toasted results.
