Hi, Hilary. I'm not sure if it would be worth your time to try toasting sugar in a crockpot. A crockpot is quite effective at locking in moisture, which is why you end up with super-moist chicken, stews, etc. Moisture or steam is an enemy when toasting sugar — that's what leads to clumping. I would guess that a crockpot would simply melt the sugar if the lid was left on, and it might not get hot enough if the lid is left off. You could try leaving it slightly ajar to see how it works if you've got the curiosity and time. If you decide to give it a try, let us know how it goes!
