Hi PJ, Why the limit on the amount of starter to 1!/2 cups. For years I have kept a quart of starter in a 2 quart mason jar with the rubber ring removed and fed it about twice a month. I received my starter as a gift from someone who had some starter that was about 100 years old at that time. This starter survived the move from the states to Okinawa, our move from Okinawa to the Republic of the Philippines and then to the Chicago area. Unfortunately, my brother-in-law did not understand that the black liquid on the top of the starter was it begging to be fed before using and through it out. I did not kill him but thought about it.
